Creatura - Nely Cab
My interest in this book started with the campaign to publish "Creatura" in Romania. Seing how popular the novel was, reading the synopsis and a few reviews convinced me it was worth giving a try.
Isis Martin is struggling with sleep problems. Every time she falls asleep, she dreams of a beast that growls at her. After three months of sleepless nights, Isis decides to confront this beast that haunts her dreams only to discover that it's actually... a boy of her age. And what a boy! Isis is convinced that the boy is but a figment of her imagination and she dares him to prove he's real. So said, so done! The boy makes his appearance at school the following day and enrolls as a student there. He is David Chios, he is real and he is... a deity that has fallen in love with Isis and would do anything to make her his.
I particularly enjoyed the blooming relationship between these two characters. "It is forbidden as is the illicit fruit of Hades...", but David can't just give up on love now that he has discovered this feeling. He is too good to be true. He is handsome, romantic, poetic... a winged immortal gentleman, and just a little bit cocky.
" "Do you find me attractive?" he queried.
It was an awkward question, and I felt ashamed to answer because the answer was so obvious. I wasn't blind for goodness sake!
"Are all gods as conceited as you?"
"Only the good ones." He winked. "
Isis, however, fearing the consequences of a romantic affair with him, denies her love for him.
"I was silent. I felt awkward not knowing how to react or what else to say. Any other girl would have fallen into his arms and melted. Too bad I wasn't any other girl."
There are many cute romantic scenes between the two, even before they finally decide they can't live without each other. Most of the times, it's David writing poetry or gifting Isis with flowers. The dialogues are very well written, and make the story feel real. I really loved David's clever love statements and a particular scene where David and Isis are "competing" in declaring their love.
"I shall tell you a truth... your lips taste of sweet ripened berries. I should be so forward as to take them in degust. And if it cannot be so, then I shall kneel until that day in purgatory."
Apart from the love scenes, there are a few other things that made me enjoy this book. One of them was the strong bond between Isis and her mother. I could relate to those moments, having grown up only with my mom, just like Isis did. They are often more best friends than mother and child. They are sharing their worries and happiness, even though Isis cannot tell her about what David is, as it would put them in danger.
The appearance of David's family also spices things up, making for some fun scenes at times. You will get what I mean if you decide to read the book. Also, there will be some complications that will keep you on the boil, not wanting to put the book down - or in my case, the Kindle.
"Creatura" is a quick, fun, cute read about forbidden love, family and student life. If you are a young adult or like reading about teens, then you will definitely adore this book! I am giving it a rating of four out of five stars because there were some parts were the action was lacking or was slow, and there were a few typos or punctuation errors.

În primul rând, aş vrea să-i mulţumesc autoarei - Nelz Cab - care mi-a dat o copie în format electronic a cărţii ei, în schimbul unei recenzii sincere.
Interestul meu faţă de această carte a început odată cu campanie de publicare a acesteia în România. Văzând cât de popular este romanul, citind despre ce e vorba şi câteva recenzii, m-am convins că merită încercat.
Isis Martin se confruntă cu probleme de somn. De fiecare dată când adoarme, visează o bestie care mărâie la ea. După trei luni de nopţi fără somn, Isis decide să confrunte această bestie care îi bântuie visele, numai ca să descopere că e de fapt... un băiat de vârsta ei. Isis e convinsă că el e doar un rod al imaginaţiei ei şi îl provoacă să-i dovedească faptul că e real. Zis şi făcut! Băiatul îşi face apariţia la şcoală în următoarea zi şi se înscrie ca student. El e David Chios, e adevărat şi e... un zeu care s-a îndrăgostit de Isis şi e în stare să facă orice ca ea să fie a lui.
Mi-a plăcut în mod special relaţie înfloritoare dintre cele două personaje. "E interzisă ca fructul lui Hades...", dar David nu poate renunţa la dragostea lui acum că a descoperit acest sentiment. El e prea bun ca să fie adevărat. E frumos, romantic, poetic... un gentleman nemuritor şi înnaripat, şi puţin de tot înfumurat.
" "Mă găseşti atractiv?" m-a întrebat.
Era o întrebare ciudată şi mi-era ruşine să răspund pentru că răspunsul era atât de evident! Doar nu eram oarbă!
"Toţi zeii sunt aşa îngâmfaţi ca tine?"
"Doar cei buni." A făcut el cu ochiul. "
Isis, însă, temându-se de consecinţele unei relaţii cu el, îşi neagă dragostea pentru el.
"Eram tăcută. Mă simţeam ciudat, neştiind cum să reacţionez sau ce să spun. Oricare altă fată i s-ar fi topit în braţe. Păcat că eu nu eram oricare altă fată."
Sunt multe scene romantice şi drăguţe între cei doi, chiar înainte ca aceştia să decidă că nu pot trăi unul fără altul. De cele mai multe ori, David îi scrie poezii sau îi dăruieşte flori lui Isis. Dialogurile sunt foarte bine scrise şi fac povestea să pară reală. Mi-au plăcut mult declaraţiile isteţe de dragoste ale lui David şi o anumită scenă în care David şi Isis se "întrec" în declaraţii de dragoste.
"Îţi voi spune un adevăr... buzele tale au gustul fragilor copţi şi dulci. Aş îndrăzni să le iau în degustare. Şi dacă nu mi-este permis, atunci voi îngenunchea în purgatoriu până în acea zi."
Pe lângă scenele de dragoste, au mai fost şi alte câteva lucruri care m-au făcut să îmi placă această carte. Unul din ele a fost strânsa legătură dintre Isis şi mama ei. M-am putut raporta la aceste momente, întru cât am crescut doar cu mama mea, la fel ca Isis. Cele două sunt de multe ori mai degrabă cele mai bune prietene, decât mamă şi fiică. Ele îşi împărtăşesc grijile şi fericirea, chiar dacă Isis nu-i poate spune despre ceea ce e David, pentru a nu-l pune în pericol.
Apariţia familiei lui David condimentează puţin lucrurile, ducând la câteva scene amuzante. Veţi înţelege la ce mă refer dacă veţi citi cartea. De asemenea, vor apărea nişte complicaţii care vă vor ţine în priză, fără să vreţi să lăsaţi cartea din mână - sau, în cazul meu, Kindle-ul.
"Creatura" e o lectură uşoară, amuzantă şi drăguţă despre dragoste interzisă, familie şi viaţa de elev de liceu. Dacă eşti tânăr/ă sau îţi place să citeşti despre tineri, atunci sigur vei adora cartea aceasta! Eu îi dau patru din cinci steluţe, pentru că în unele locuri lipsea acţiunea sau totul se întâmpla foarte încet, şi au existat câteva greşeli de tastare şi de punctuaţie.
